UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

What's the focus of this major?

The Innovation Major adds an innovation dimension to the study of an engineering discipline. In addition to a solid engineering foundation, students choosing the Innovation Major will gain the skills to identify opportunities and develop products and processes to meet these opportunities. You will learn how to understand and manage engineering innovation processes in a variety of environments by studying topics such as creativity and idea generation, patents and intellectual property, product planning, product development, and project funding.

Students in the Innovation Major will choose from one of the six engineering majors for their engineering disciplinary focus: Civil, Civil & Environmental, Electrical, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mechanical or Mechanical & Mechatronics. Innovation engineering students will also choose from a range of cross-faculty subjects in areas like finance, marketing or intellectual property law to enhance their innovation strength. The Innovation Major complements any of the engineering disciplines, and you'll graduate ready to realise the commercial potential of the great ideas Australia is famous for.

Where will I work?

You'll be able to work in any of the areas suggested for your chosen major and will be well suited for a career within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment. You will have developed skills that are particularly useful for positions involving product planning and strategy, product development and business development, marketing or for starting your own business.
