Vision
IAN is the bridge
linking UTS and industry – it seeks to ensure that graduates'
education, knowledge and experience exceeds industry's needs and
expectations both at engagement and in the long term and to enhance the
business community's capture of practice-based education and research.
Values
- The diversified opinions of
the members
- Frank and open discussion
- Insight into industry's
real and changing needs
- Opinions, plans and
recommendations that are pragmatic, pertinent, timely and can make a
difference.
Mission
Make a
significant difference in:
- How UTS Engineering is
perceived (internally and externally) as the premium, practice-based
engineering faculty
- Industry's perception that
UTS graduates are first class by world standards
- Forming a strong network
for academics to draw upon
- Future students regard the
University as their first choice
Provide
strategic support on:
- The quality of courses and
the desirable attributes of students and graduates to meet the demands
of the evolving world of engineering
- Issues of importance and
relevance for the future development of the Faculty
- Inter-relationships with
Government, professional institutions and other relevant influential
bodies.
SHORT TERM STRATEGIES
Network
Strengthen the
networking process so that academic staff know:
- Who to ask (for
information, assistance, etc)
- How to ask (and know that,
although busy people, IAN members want to help)
- What to ask for (with a
reasonable chance of success)
Student Contact
Face to face
contact (between students and IAN members) in order for students to
appreciate:
- The value of IAN to the
standards of the faculty
- The way the faculty is
responding to the needs of industry
- How they may become
graduates of choice
Internships
Facilitate the internship program through advice and networking the
internship program.
Clustering
Form clusters (by discipline and interest groups) of IAN members and
academic staff to undertake focussed activities and to pursue mutual
benefit.
Research
Foster collaborative research projects (between academic staff and
industry) through networking, partnering initiatives, promotion and
scholarships.
