This year all NSW and ACT year 12 students will be the first to receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). ATAR will replace the Universities Admission Index (UAI).

The change to ATAR is the first step towards a national ranking system consistent across all states and territories in Australia. This means that your year 12 students will now be in line with their interstate peers, and can easily pick and choose from all Australian universities, where ever they are.

The students’ actual ranking will stay the same, but the university cut-offs for 2009 have all changed slightly. There’s no need to worry though, as the change won’t have any impact on your individual ranking for admission to uni. The highest rank that a student can achieve will now be an ATAR of 99.95 as opposed to a UAI of 100. So getting an ATAR of 99.95 is the same as getting a UAI of 100.
