APPLICATION
Mid-Year Applications
Applications for mid-year entry are
now closed. Spring
Semester commences 30 July 2007.
CURRENT SCHOOL LEAVERS
Your application is based on a
combination of your UAI score and a completed questionnaire -
see Multiple Criteria Entry below for more details. If you
are sitting the Australian Year 12 examination in 2006, you will
need to make your application through the Universities Admissions
Centre (UAC) Infoline or the UAC website.
Multiple Criteria Entry
In 2005 UTS Engineering changed the way
it makes offers to HSC students wanting to study engineering at UTS.
We believe that admission to our courses should take into account
more than just your UAI. So, to achieve this we are doing two
things:
1. Adjusting your UAI by giving you two bonus points (up to a
maximum of six points) for each HSC subject you
have completed that has a connection to
engineering. For a full list of subjects considered to have a
connection to engineering,
2. If after adjusting your UAI as outlined above,
you still have a UAI less than the cut-off, we will take into
consideration the questionnaire you have submitted.
The questionnaire aims to provide us with an understanding of
your motivations for studying engineering and
will be used in conjunction with your adjusted
UAI to decide on whether or not we will make you an
offer.
What this means is
that if the answers to your questionnaire are sufficiently
compelling then you could receive an offer into some of the UTS
Engineering courses even if you have an adjusted
UAI lower than the advertised UAI’s.

Prerequisites (Assumed Knowledge)
Although there are no formal subject
prerequisites, the course is taught on the assumption that
students have competencies equivalent to HSC with Standard
English, Mathematics Extension 1 and Physics.
We also recommend that you complete
Advanced English. For the
BE/BA in International Studies, there are NO language
prerequisites but some background in one of Chinese (Mandarin),
French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Spanish or Thai
is an advantage.
Bridging Courses
Applicants who do not have the Assumed Knowledge outlined above,
or who do not feel confident with this material, are encouraged
to contact the faculty for advice. Lack of background knowledge
and/or confidence may create obstacles to successful orientation
to the University in the first year of study. There are bridging
Courses in Mathematics and Physics which are recommended, as
well as an option to take the first mathematics and physics
subjects at a slower pace than standard. The Bridging courses
are available during the summer vacation.
Scholarships
The Faculty of Engineering is
offering approximately 40 scholarships to current school leavers.

ATN engineering selection test
Australian Technology Network
Engineering Selection Test (ATNEST) is an optional two and a half hour
multiple choice test that assesses a candidate’s aptitude to think
scientifically, solve quantitative problems, critically analyse
information and display interpersonal understanding. It may help you in
securing a place at UTS. For more information,

NON-CURRENT SCHOOL LEAVERS / MATURE-AGE STUDENTS
Most students must apply through
the Universities Admission Centre (UAC). For further details on
admission check the main University web page on
Admissions.
Advanced Standing
If you have already completed, or part completed a university
course you may be eligible for advanced standing. This will
either exempt you from certain specific subjects or reduce the
number of elective subjects you need to complete. The faculty
will examine applications for advanced standing on a
case-by-case basis.
TAFE
If you have completed a TAFE Diploma or Advanced Diploma in an
engineering sub-discipline you may be eligible for advanced
standing. Depending on your TAFE grade point average, between one
and two semesters of advanced standing will be awarded.
Personal Statement
As a non-current school leaver, you
are entitled to submit a personal statement which can increase
your chance of being offered a place. For more information,
click here. Please note, applicants sitting for a STAT
(Special Tertiary Admissions Test) which is administered by UAC
MUST submit a personal statement. The 2007 UAC Guide contains
information on STAT as well as a registration form.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
All international students
must complete an
International Student Application Form, and pay an
application fee of A$100. The application fee will only be
waived if your application is submitted to a UTS representative
at one of the
international events.
Applying for Advanced Standing
If you are applying for advanced
standing, you must also complete the
Recognition of Prior Learning Application (PDF* 24K).
You will receive a letter
acknowledging receipt of your application two weeks after your
application is received by UTS. The application procedure
normally takes about four to six weeks and the International
Office will advise you in writing whether your application is
successful.
International applications must be
sent to:
The Director
International Office
University of Technology, Sydney
PO Box 123
Broadway NSW 2007
Australia
Please remember to attach the
following:
UTS cannot consider your application
if these are not attached.
You may apply to UTS at any time.
The closing dates for applications are as follows:

Spring semester - June 15
Late applications will not be
accepted.
It is best to apply early to allow
yourself plenty of time to organise your student visa to study
at UTS.
