Submajors |
|||
From 2004 the University has changed its approach to submajors. These are now recorded as part of your enrolment in the same way as your major, and only a limited set of submajors will be available. From 2005 the list of formally approved submajors will be available in the handbook, and can be added to your enrolment in the same way as for changing your normal enrolment in subjects or majors etc (i.e. through a VoP). Pre-2003 students please see the note below. What is a Sub Major? A submajor is a secondary focus to your degree. You complete a sub major by using your electives to undertake a cohesive program of study in a certain area. Essentially, if you complete 24 credit points from a specified pool of subjects (subject to any other requirements of the submajor, such as a particular subject being required) then it can be recognised on your official record as a submajor. Standard Sub Majors Submajors are approved through a relevant University process and then become available to students.The approval process also identifies which groups of students are allowed to enrol in each submajor.From 2005 onwards the list of submajors which are available will be published in the University handbooks. Frequently Asked Questions Q: Can I include a subject I have done
for my major in a sub-major? Q: Can I do any submajor? Pre-2003 Submajor Details Prior to 2003 the process for managing sub-majors was somewhat different: A much broader list of submajors was available and students were able to propose changes and new submajors. Student who enrolled prior to 2003 are still able to complete these previous submajors, however new submajors or changes to existing submajors will not be able to be proposed. Further, the process for recognising these submajors is different from the current approach. You do not enrol in these submajors formally. Rather, you complete the relevant subjects and we then recognise the submajor through a note on your academic record. If you wish to have a submajor recognised then you should discuss this with the Director of Undergraduate Programs prior to the commencement of your final semester.
